Notes

  • Obituary: September 22, 1948 \endash March 6, 2025 It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Wendell, on March 6, 2025, in Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital, Tatamagouche, with his loving family by his side following a brief illness. Wendell was born and raised in Tatamagouche by the late Ernest and Elsie (Tattrie) Cole. In his early years, Wendell was quite the basketball player (even with the bowed legs). When it came to fishing and rabbit hunting, Wendell may have even skipped a little school to enjoy this pastime. Wendell honed many skills as a young man from carpentry with his dad, mechanics and plumbing; skills he used when he headed west as a young man. When Wendell and family returned to Tatamagouche, he added truck driver to his skills, driving for Bell's Transfer, Taylors Transfer Ltd and Thompsons Transfer. He even tried long haul with Midland Transport and Armour Transport. Wendell was known for putting that truck wherever it needed to go. In later years, Wendell became a school bus driver. He spent over 15 years transporting his grandchildren and others. One of his favorite moments in his career was the trips to Oklahoma to pick up the new buses. There were a lot of laughs had on those trips. Wendell was wise and hard working and successfully passed those values on to his three children. Wendell had a few loves in his life, the most important of those being his three children and seven grand children whom he enjoyed every single second with. The last couple of weeks was very special for all, they enjoyed many laughs, a few tears and a family bond that came together in time of need. In case you didn't know, Wendell had a sense of humor like no other. He was always up to tell or hear a great joke. It gave Wendell great joy to see people laugh. Throughout the years he also played softball and broomball. That orange helmet was quite recognizable, especially when he dropped his head and ran down the ice. It took him a few tries, but Wendell met the love of his life and best friend Janet. They spent over 25 years together until Janet's passing in 2017. His next love was classic cars. You could find Wendell at many car shows over the years showing his 1980 Chev Step Side Truck to his 1971 Chevelle SS, usually bringing home a plaque or a prize. Wendell is survived by his daughter Cora Lee (Keith), sons Terry (Julie) and Sandy (Shelagh); grandchildren Bailey (Austin), Hayden, Bryanna (Kyle), Braycen, Kendra, Peyton and Lauryn; sister Eleanor Clarke (Bill), nephew, Scott and niece, Shelley. He was predeceased by parents, Ernest and Elsie; wife, Janet and son in law, Jo Dowding. Cremation has taken place. At Wendell's request, there will be a Gathering in Coulter's Funeral Home, Tatamagouche on Sunday, March 16, 2025, from 2 PM to 4 PM to celebrate his life. Donations in Wendell's memory may be made to charity of choice.
