  • Obituary: Donald F. Colpitts of Lynn, passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 11th. He was the husband of Lydia (Hoyt) Colpitts whom he would have shared 70 years of marriage in January 2021. Born in Lynn he was the son of the late Howard and Edith Colpitts. He attended the Brickett School, though most of his education was at the Stetson Home for Boys in Barre, MA. He was the youngest member of the Stetson Home Alumni, served as assistant secretary, then president for 5 years. He spent many years searching for his Stetson brothers, locating over 200 worldwide. He was honored by the Trustees having a building he worked in named after him. Donald compiled over 800 pages of Home history, and raised over $10,000 to restore the Stetson Clock Tower. The Home was torn down in 2015, "That was my home, and always will be" he stated many times. Donald volunteered for the Salvation Army Item Santa Fund. He formed a Neighborhood Improvement Association, was elected to the Model Cities Program, and was a huge contributor to any Police and Military funds. Donald is survived by his wife Lydia of Lynn, son David Colpitts of Lynn, daughter Lisa Hill of Lynn, grandchildren Dawn Marie Darwish and her husband Ben of Lynnfield, Jason and wife Candy Colpitts of Lynn, Jared Colpitts and Gail Colpitts of Lynn, Jennifer Cronin of NH, Matthew Hill of FL, two great grand children Alex and Michael Darwish, his loving nieces Kathy and Cheryl, cousin Judy, and close friend Jolee of FL, along with his dog Rita, and cat Simon. He is predeceased by son Donald Jr. and Mark of Lynn, brothers Harold of Lynn, Howard and Walter of Nova Scotia, and Gerry of Saugus, sisters Jean (Colpitts) Hughes, Hilda (Colpitts) Boudrow, and Betty (Colpitts) Clinch of Lynn, and his faithful companions Lucky and Trooper. You will forever be remembered for your Hawaiian shirts, quick but silly wit, and huge heart. "Love you kid" A memorial service will be held on Monday at 11AM in the SOLIMINE FUNERAL HOME, 426 Broadway (Rt 129), Lynn. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and are expected to adhere to the guidelines of the Commonwealth of MA and the CDC, which limits the service to 40 family members and friends at a time. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn.
