  • Obituary: Dorothy May Niles TRURO - Committal services for the late Dorothy May (Willigar) Niles of Truro, and formerly of East Mapleton will be held on Saturday, May 12th at 2 pm in the family lot of Mapleton Cemetery, Mapleton, NS. The Rev. Robert Mack will be officiating, assisted by her brother, the Rev. Morley Bentley. A reception to follow at the Mapleton United Church. In Loving Memory of Dorothy May Niles March 8, 1927 ~ February 6, 2007 Our precious mother, devoted Christian and friend, passed peacefully from this life with dignity and grace, on February 6, at the Colchester Hospital,Truro, after a six year struggle with MDS, her son Wayne and his wife Edith at her side. A battle she faced with unwavering faith and courage, and a gentle quiet grace, as had she lived her life. Born at the home of her parents, in Lynn, Colchester Co., on March 8th, 1927, she was the eldest child of the late Urias and Vivian (Porter-Tupper) Willigar. As a young child she moved with her family to East Mapleton, this was the place her heart always considered home and where she longed to be. It was here she received her education in a one room school house, which also served as a place of worship and where she would begin her lifelong association with the United Church of Canada. A lady with incredible faith, she took great enjoyment from the fellowship of her Church family. Dorothy was a long time member of the United Church Women¹s Group as well as a member for many years with the Nova Scotia Women¹s Institute. She felt privileged to have served her church over the years in the various positions, including Sunday School Teacher and Sunday School Superintendent. Deprived of the care of a mother at the tender age of nine, she soon assumed many duties of the household, as well as helping her father care for her younger siblings. This would mark the beginning of a lifelong devotion to caring for others, and being a mother. Caring and providing for her family, nurturing each one along was her first concern. In addition to raising her children, she aided whenever possible with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as caring and attending to her parents in their final years. A very proud, yet humble woman, whenever acknowledged for singlehandedly raising her family, she would quickly credit an success to the lover, support, and influence of her parents, brother Earnest, her community and church family. Dot as she was affectionately known to many, was described in life as an incredible woman, a lady of beauty, a person of great faith, a tireless worker, a real lady, and as someone who had a positive effect on more lives than most of us could ever realize.² Her home always had an open door with an extra place at the table, and always there was room for one more. Mourning the loss of a cherished mother, are her children, Dorothy (Francis) Cameron, Hilden; [name of child missing] (Tony) John, Truro; Brenda (Kevin) Little, Bible Hill; Wayne (Edith), Bible Hill; Kenneth, Truro; Jhadten,Vancouver; Edward (Linda), Bible Hill; Kay Delaney, Hilden. Left with precious memories are her 13 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. She will be remembered by her cherished sister Irene, Mrs Maurice Hickey, Halifax; brothers, Rev. Morley (Margaret), Tatamagouche; Elden (Shirley),Amherst; Stan (Jean), Powell River. Dorothy was predeceased by her sister, Joyce (Norman) Harrison, and brothers, Ernest and William.
