Notes

  • Obituary: TUPPER (Porter), Vivian Willigar - Long-time resident of 13 Logan St., Truro, passed peacefully from this life September 18, 2000, surrounded by the strong and united love of her family. Born in Joggins, she was the eldest and last surviving child of the late John and Alice (Bruce) Porter. Mrs. Tupper was a former employee of Stanfield's Limited, Truro, and later Andres Wines Ltd., from where she retired in 1975. She was a member of the First United Church, Truro. Vivian took pride in her Scottish heritage, having travelled several times as a young girl, to her mother's homeland of Edinburgh, Scotland. Even in her final days, she was able to recite Gaelic verses her mother had taught her as a child. Known for her incredibly quick wit and sense of humor, she will be deeply missed by all who knew her. A lady with distinctive personality, she possessed immense compassion for the sick and less fortunate. One of her greatest joys in life came from bringing a smile to the face of a friend, stranger, or family member. She will be remembered for her style and determination, as well as her beloved pair of Boston Terriers "Mugs and Peggy". Left to mourn the loss of their mother are children: Mrs. Dorothy Niles, Truro; Ernest Willigar, East Mapleton; Stan Tupper, Powell River. She will be especially missed by her grandson: John 'Tony' Niles, Truro; long time friend: Laverne Hegen, Bass River; as well as her 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and six great great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in Scotland, Canada and the United States. Vivian was predeceased by her first husband: Urias Willigar, East Mapleton; her second husband: Orlan Tupper, Truro. She was predeceased by her beloved sisters: Gladys (Mrs. Clifford Parent) and Dorothy (Mrs. Earl Doncaster), her youngest daughter: Joyce (Mrs. Norman Harrison); infant son: William Urias Willigar, and granddaughter: Jeanne Harrison. The late Mrs. Tupper is resting in Mattatall's Funeral Home, 55 Young St., Truro, where family will receive friends and relatives today from 4-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 20, in the First United Church, Truro, Rev. Bobby Fillier officiating, assisted by her nephew, Rev. Morley Bentley. A reception will follow in the church hail. Burial will then follow in the family plot in the Mapleton Cemetery, Mapleton, at 5:30 p.m.
