  • Obituary: Donovan Grover, 99, of Ashby died Monday, Feb. 12, 2001, at the Grant County Health Center in Elbow Lake. He was born Aug. 7, 1901, in rural Grant County to Fred and Mable (Burns) Grover. He was the oldest of eight children. At the age of 17, he was baptized at his home. He was raised by his grandparents from age five to adulthood. He attended elementary school at rural School District 7 in Grant County, grades seven and eight at Park Rapids and nine through 12 at Ashby, graduating in the second graduating class at Ashby High School in 1919. Following high school he attended St. Cloud Teachers College. He taught school in rural Grant County, became a welfare officer at Elbow Lake and then went back to work in Ashby as village assessor, treasurer and for 31 years was the postmaster and rural mail carrier. On May 15, 1936, he married Myrtle Lillian Libke at a parsonage north of Dalton. They were married until her death on March 9, 1984. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings; his wife, Myrtle; infant daughter, Elizabeth; a daughter, Margaret; his grandson, Mark Amundson; and a great-grandson, Kevin McNeely. Survivors include his children, Kathleen (Robert) McNeely, Donovan (Ann) Grover, David (Donna J.) Grover, Rose Marie (Donald) Nissen, Thomas (Terry) Grover, Becky (Donald) Amundson and Robert (Donna F.) Grover; son-in-laws, Dennis (Judy) Helle and David Hubel; 19 grandchildren, Patrick, Jim, Michelle, Elizabeth, Rachel, Craig, Carol, Denise, Deborah, Daniel, Teresa, Thomas, Jennifer, Patricia, Peter, Timothy, Sarah, Chad and Ginger; 17 great-grandchildren; and special friends, Willard Paulson, Cliff Bertram and Mervin Nelson. Visitation: Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church Service: 11 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church, Ashby Clergy: Rev.
