THOMAS W D'S FATHER, ROBERT MARKHAM ,COMMITED SUICIDE IN DEC 1869 AT AGE 52. Dad was born at Providence Hospital on Elmwood Avenue,it not there now. He lived on Hamlin Street, Longfellow Street, Sawyer Street, and Elmwood Avenue above a store. He joined the United States Army AirForce in April 1943. He lived his childhood and youth in his Elmwood. On August 4th 1944 he married Virginia G Riley of Washington Park. Upon his dicharge and return home, he and Virginia moved to an apartment on Lexington Avenue and started their family. Dad is buried with wife,parents in West Medway Ma His mother Hattie Mae (Coombs) Markham came from West Medway The Coombs Family Lot is there,West Medway. His Cenotaph Memorial is here at Locust Grove Cemetery, Elmwood. Dad was a 1939 graduate of Central High School,Providence. He was a graduate of Radio Aircraft School in the U.S. Army Airforce,Truax Field,Wisconsin during the war in 1943. Dad worked as a machinist for the U.S. Ring Traveler Company from July 1939 until he retired in April 1983. He was a great provider for his family and enjoyed his home in Warwick. He loved growing vegetables to help with the food costs. He enjoyed his back lot and yardwork,always working the richness of the soil. He loved the New England seasons. In Winter 1982 he had a wood burning stove put in his home He enjoyed this endeavor. Dad was a founder of the Rhode Island Fish and Game Protective Association and served as President and in many other capcaites in the club throughout his life. Dad served on the Green Acres Commission in the 1960's appointed by Gov. John Chafee. He was the grandfather of two, great grandfather of four. HE LOVED HIS FAMILY,CAROL ELAINE, HIS DAUGHTER AND GRANDCHILDREN, KRISTEN, GARY CHRISTOPHER AND FOUR GREAT GRANDCHILDRENDAD YOU ALWAYS REEMEBERED IN HONOR DECEMBER 7TH PEARL HARBOR DAY, FEBRUARY 19TH THE IWO JIMA INVASION, AND AUGUST 14TH VICTORY DAY AND END OF WORLD WAR TWO. ALWAYS REMEMBERED. HE WAS THE GREAT GRANDFATHER OF GIANNA KRISTEN,LUCIAN ANGELO SPREMULLO.COLIN PATRICK,ERICA PAGE CASSADY Dad passed away in West View Healthcare Center ,West Warwick under HOSPICE CARE with congestive heart failure. We were with him from February 20th to May 14th 2008. His Virginia had passed away five and half months before. On May 31st 2008 Saturday a private Memorial Service was held at our church in Hope RI
