Head Obituary: Portsmouth \endash Joan V. (Fenwick) Christy, age 76, a lifelong resident of Portsmouth, NH, passed away at her home unexpectedly on February 22, 2024. She was the widow of Alden Taylor Christy. She was born in Portsmouth on July 30, 1947, daughter of the late Marston Seavey Fenwick and Natalie (Brooks)(Fenwick) Rau. Prior to her retirement, Joan worked in the Portsmouth School System as the Library Department Head, where she worked for over 30 years. She was an active communicant of St. John's Episcopal Church in Portsmouth for many years. She was an avid gardener, loved to read and attended a book club. She was a member of the Portsmouth Athenaeum. Joan loved to travel, especially her annual spring trip to England. She was preceded in death by her two sons, Alex J. Christy (2009) and Nathan R. Christy (2014). Survivors include her two brothers and a sister-in-law, Jonathan & Emilia Fenwick, and Mark Fenwick; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Anne & Reggie Goff, and Alison Kearns; also several nieces & nephews. SERVICES \endash Relatives & Friends are invited to her Memorial Service on Saturday March 16, 2024 at ??11:00 am at St. John's Episcopal Church, 101 Chapel St., Portsmouth. Reception to follow.
