  • Obituary: MESA, Ariz; Marston Seavey Fenwick, 93, of Mesa, died Tuesday, March 25, at the Banner Desert Hospice House in Mesa after a long battle with throat cancer with members of his family by his side. He was born in Portsmouth, N.H., on Oct. 16, 1914, the son of the late Jack and Elisabeth (Seavey) Fenwick. He graduated from Portsmouth High School with the Class of 1932 and The University of New Hampshire with the Class of 1936 with degrees in zoology and geology. He served in the Army during World War II as an aircraft mechanic. He retired from the nuclear power division at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in 1980 after 37 years of service. Marston loved music and was a lifelong musician, beginning in the Portsmouth, N.H., school system as a member of the then Whipple Junior High School band. He played clarinet and saxophone for many Seacoast bands and orchestras and for 20 years was the secretary and treasurer of American Musician's Union #376. In the 1950s and 60s he was a member of the musical group known as "The Hungry Five." After his retirement to Arizona, Marston played in the Phoenix City Band and the Tower Point Band. He was an avid ballroom dancer and, with his wife, Alice, was a folk dance and Hawaiian dance performer. He and Alice were also active as volunteer circus clowns for parades and benefits throughout Arizona. He traveled to many parts of the world and enjoyed folk dance cruises to numerous destinations in the United States and abroad. He was a member of the Unity Church in Mesa, Arizona. When living in Portsmouth, he was an active member of St. John's Episcopal Church and later the Baha'i community of Eliot, Maine. Besides his wife, Alice Stewart Fenwick, of Mesa he leaves five children, Joan F. Christy and Mark L. Fenwick of Portsmouth, N.H., Jonathan L. Fenwick and his wife, Mia, of Woodbridge, Va., Anne M. Goff and her husband Reggie of Warner, N.H. and Alison Kearns of Loudon, N.H. He also leaves five grandchildren, Nathan Christy, Alex Christy, Elaine Fenwick, Nesmith Bjornson and Hunter Goff. He was predeceased by his previous wife, Maxine L. Fenwick, and by two sons-in-law, Taylor Christy and Richard Kearns. Marston's first wife, Natalie, died in 2001. Burial will be in Center Cemetery, North Hampton, N.H., later in the spring. A memorial service and reception will be announced at a future date.
