  • Obituary: The death of Mrs Owen is one of the most momentous on the obituary lists of Annapolis Royal in many years. A lady so popular and greatly esteemed, so very widely known, such a leader in social and public affairs and such an eminent hostess, her fame and eminent individuality has made her much more than a local figure. When the word went out last Sunday that she had passed away early that morning at the Queen Hotel, where she and Mr Owen were stopping for the winter, a wave of solemnity swept over the community. Her large and commodious home was one of the beautiful places of the historic town, a centre of hospitality for many years and a place that had become notable among the most distinguished visitors. Her collections of literary curiosities and bric-a-brac included many rare and costly items. Her studies and literary proclivities had put her in touch with not a few of the most eminent people. Her efficient discharge of the duties of President of the Annapolis Royal Historical Association in repeated terms of office, as well as her association with the IODE and in the church and other societies, especially during and since the war, had abundantly demonstrated her high sense of the possible field for women in patriotic and public work, while the exercise of her charity and benevolence were always unstinted, and the abilities and resources at her command were ever ready of response to any worthy appeal. Isabella Ann Owen was a daughter of the late Dr James C Farish of Yarmouth, and was educated at one of the leading women's colleges in Ontario. She was married on Oct 24, 1888 to Jacob M Owen, who has practised law in this town for many years and been for a long time Registrar of Probate. She leaves 2 sons, both of whom won eminence in the war: Major Dan Owen, now a KC here, and Captain JC Farish Owen of Providence, RI. Annapolis Spectator Annapolis Royal,NS March 11,1926
