He was born Nov 9, 1844, son of the late Daniel Owen, barrister and Elizabeth M Owen, Lunenburg. He was admitted into the bar in 1867 and came immediately to Annapolis Royal where he soon had a large and successful practice. He was made a Judge of Probate in 1896 and KC in 1900. For 61 years he was American Consular agent and the oldest man in the service. He married Isabelle, daughter of Dr and Mrs James Collins Farrish, Yarmouth, who predeceased him. Theirs was a leading home in hospitality and culture and all the fine arts. He is survived by 2 sons: Daniel Owen, KC, Mayor of Annapolis Royal and Farrish of Pawtucket, RI, and also by 5 granddaughters, and by 2 brothers: Daniel M Owen, Halifax and NC Owen, Bridgewater. A brother Hon. WH Owen and a sister, Miss Mary Owen, Bridgewater; and a sister, Kate, wife of Reverend JO Ruggles, a former rector at Kentville predeceased him. Funeral will be from St Luke's Church, Reverend Mr White officiating, with interment at St Albans.
