Notes

  • Occupation: Clara May (Beaver) Staples \endash 90, Belmont, Colchester County, passed away Saturday, March 23, 2013. We are saddened by our loss, but relieved that Mom gently passed from this life and is now at peace belonging to Eternity. The past number of years she lived with Alzheimer's disease. Through the progression of the disease, Mom's "old self" would, on occasion, shine through as she retained her gentle dignity. Mom lived most of her 90 years in Belmont: she was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother and friend. She was an active community worker in a variety of capacities, including fundraising for the PTA and Driver's Education for widows. She gave many "haircuts" and "perms" in her home and in the community over the years. For over 80 years, she was a very active member of her chosen church, Belmont Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school, Daily Vacation Bible School, sang in the choir and helped organize many church events. She was the Secretary-Treasurer of the Women's Missionary Society for over 50 years. Clara is survived by her sons, Gerald (Lise) Beaver, Leonard Beaver; grandchildren, Jason and Tara Beaver; two great grandsons; two great-great granddaughters; brother, Orland (Myrtle) Roblee; sister, Lillian Nichols; sister-in-law, Ruth Beaver; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by several Staples step-children and their families. Clara was predeceased by her first husband, Walter Beaver; second husband, Grant Staples; parents, Perley and Lucy (Cox) Roblee; sister, Dorothy (Oscar) Teed; grandson, Richard Beaver. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the daily caregivers and staff of Melville Lodge, Halifax, for Mom's care. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall \endash Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Clara's family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. \endash 1:15 p.m., Wednesday, March 27, 2013, followed by the funeral service at 1:30 p.m., Reverend Henry Boehm officiating. Reception will follow. Spring interment in Belmont Cemetery. Family flowers only. If so desired, donations in Clara's memory to Belmont Cemetery Fund, Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or Belmont Baptist Church are welcomed. Private messages of condolence may be sent to the family by viewing Clara's obituary on-line and selecting "Send A Condolence" at: www.mattatallvarnerfh.com
