  • Obituary: Wright, Irene Glennie – Age 90, Truro, passed away peacefully at home on June 28, 2023. Irene graduated from CCA in 1951, where she enjoyed playing basketball, badminton, and tennis. She later graduated from the VG School of Nursing in 1954 where she made many lifelong friends. Irene was a labour and delivery nurse in Truro for 30 years and then was the school nurse at NSAC for two years before doing private nursing. She loved nursing and all her patients. She was a lifelong member of the First United Church - Truro and was in Unit N of the UCW. She collected for both the Canadian Cancer Society and the Heart and Stroke Foundation in her younger years. Irene enjoyed many happy times with her friends and family at the cottage in Brule. It was truly her happy place. She loved looking out at the ocean and at the beautiful sunsets and until recent years, loved swimming, no matter how cold the water was. Irene also enjoyed baking, playing bridge, cards and travelling. She was predeceased by her parents, W. Glennie and Jessie (Lawson) Hamilton; husband, LeRoy Wright and sister, Margaret Hamilton Howe. She is survived by her sisters, Kathryn Smith (Terry), Thunder Bay, Anne Hamilton, Montreal; children, Shelly Wright (Alan Moser), Bible Hill, Bruce Wright, Truro, Diane Wright Coolen (David Coolen), Halifax; grandchildren, Alex Johnson (Jessica), Ian Johnson (Alexandra), Blake McInnis (Sharan), and Andrew McInnis (Lyndsay); great grandchildren, Nash, Thane, Glenn and after 30 years of grandsons, she was thrilled last year to welcome her first great granddaughter, Lyza; many nieces, nephews and Byers’ cousins. Special thanks to Geline Byers, who has been a blessing to us all during these difficult times; dear friends, Beth Smith and Jean Ann Athanasiou and caregiver and friend, Verna Smith. Special thanks to Dr. S. Singh for his care and compassion. Donations may be made to CNIB or Steps On Arthur. A visitation will be held on Sunday, July 9th from 2-4 p.m. with a funeral service on Monday, July 10th at 2:00 p.m. both taking place in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro, NS.
