  • Obituary: Carter, Arnold Brenton- Age 87, Valley, passed away peacefully at his home, January 12, 2025. Born in Truro he was the son of the late Hollis Brenton and Winnifred "Winnie" Irene (Chapman) Carter. Arnold spent his entire career in the building industry, first building homes then doing foundation work. This led to manufacturing forms for foundation work (Duraform). After several successful years in manufacturing, Arnold turned his attention to the vinyl siding business, A.C. Siding & Supplies, which became the first siding company in the Truro and surrounding region. Arnold had a love for flying his entire life. He received his pilot's license in 1975 and his dream of one day owning his own plane took flight. He spent several years flying from the Debert airport. Then in the 1980's he took his dream to another level. He acquired several acres of land in Valley and developed his own air strip which would become Valley Airport from which he would continue flying for many years. It became well known by local pilots and flying enthusiasts. Arnold was known for his love of taking people up for "a flip" in his plane. After he retired from flying, he developed the Greenridge Park subdivision which is today a wonderful neighbourhood. He was also known for his love of nature and had several pets, some of which are still there today, the crows, ravens, and squirrels. There was even a pheasant who would often visit the plane hangar. Arnold was a distinguished businessman with a strict set of values. Your word meant something and if you were going to do something it had to be done correctly, no exceptions. Arnold acquired a love for music at an early age from his parents. He became an accomplished acoustic guitar, steel guitar and bass player. You could hear him playing often if you walked by his home. He is survived by his three sons, Mark, Todd (Eileen) and Troy; grandchildren, Emilianne, Carleigh, Brent, Hayden; siblings, Hollis (Vonnie), Dale, Stanley (Frances), Brenda, Shelley (Richard). Besides his parents, he was predeceased by siblings, Cora, Lucy, Calvin; also Garth and Denise in infancy. Special thanks to the wonderful care workers who assisted Arnold in his final days at home. An afternoon celebrating Arnold's life will be held on Sunday, January 19th from 2 \endash 4 p.m. in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, N.S.
