Baker, known more familiarly to her friends as Jennie, at the advanced age of 76 years. Mrs. Baker was born at Kingston Village on Sept. 14, 1868, the daughter of the late Honorable Alfred P. Welton and his wife Mary. She was thus a lifelong resident of these communities and was well known and respected everywhere. On April 2, 1890, she married Milton E. Baker, who predeceased her by some fourteen years, having died on Jan. 2, 1930. Early in life she was converted, and both she and her husband were members of the Baptist Church. For the last ten years Mrs. Baker has been a faithful worshipper at the Lower Aylesford Baptist Church (Independent) and attended regularly when able to do so the services of the church, held at Kingston Bible College. Her Home-going is a loss keenly felt by all her friends, especially those who knew and loved her the best. Her life was full of activity, and she was interested in the growth of the College and the work of the church in all its details. Her witness for our Lord and Saviour was quiet but forceful; and constant in that vital Christian living which makes consistency so beautiful to those about us. She was helpful in every way, but never did she let her right hand know what her left hand accomplished. On the very afternoon of her Home-going she entertained the Ladies' Missionary Aid Society, and those attending expressed themselves as being impressed by her simple, childlike trust in the Lord whom she loved. When at about 11 p.m. the call came she was ready to meet Him. Her funeral was conducted by her Pastor, the Rev. Dr. J.J. Sidey, on Saturday, May 6, from the home residence at Tremont, with burial by the side of her husband in the Tremont Cemetery. Pallbearers were Lorimer, Ross and Geo. McGinnis, Ralph Neily, Cecil Welton and Seymour Ward. Dr. Sidey spoke from the words: "Thine eyes shall see the King in His beauty; they shall behold the land that is very far off." Mr. Mack of Kingston Bible College, read the lesson, and Miss Marietta Bowlby sang as a solo, "Some Day the Silver Chord Will Break." In her immediate family she leaves to mourn a half-sister, Mrs. Howard Neily of Kingston Village, and an uncle, Andrew Pearson of Greenwich, N.S., and several cousins. The floral tributes were many and beautiful, and as we consigned all that was mortal of our dear sister to the grave we could not help but think of the words of the poet "Jesus in thy greatest keeping, leave now our loved one sleeping."
