  • Obituary: MANNING, Randolph William, FCA, BA MANNING, Randolph William, FCA, BA - 92, Windsor, Hants Co., passed away peacefully, with his loving wife and daughter at his side, in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, on Sunday, March 9, 2008. He was born on August 1, 1915, in Falmouth, a son of the late Charles and Mabel (Wilson) Manning. Educated at Falmouth School, the Windsor Academy and Kings College School, he studied at the Maritime Business College in Halifax, graduating with the highest honours. After teaching for one year at the college, Randy joined the Chartered Accountants firm of H.R. Doane and Company, Halifax, in 1938. In 1939 Randy married Mary Kathleen Bauchman of Falmouth. In 1942, he became a Chartered Accountant. In 1944, Randy opened H.R. Doane and Company's first branch office in Charlottetown, P.E.I. He became a member of the management committee of the national partnership of Winspear, Higgins, Stevenson and Doane on its formation in 1959. Randy was a past president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Prince Edward Island. In 1962, Randy was made a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants. He was a chairman of an Advisory Committee on Uniform Regulatory Legislation, and in 1967 became president of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants. On retirement, Randy became a sessional lecturer on taxation at the University of Prince Edward Island. At the same time, he earned a Bachelor's degree, with majors in history and religious studies. Randy was a member of the Charlottetown Board of Trade, a past president of the Rotary Club of Charlottetown, and an honourary life Rotarian. During his retirement, Randy wrote a book, "Accounting for Progress", a history of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Prince Edward Island, 1921-1996. Randy's hobbies were woodcarving, golf, gardening, music, history, and travel. In the 1970's, Randy and Mary traveled across Canada, around the Pacific Rim, to Europe, and to Israel. He is survived by his devoted wife, Mary; daughter, Carolyn and son-in-law, Christopher Allworth; sister, Katherine Pye; brother, John (Mary) Manning; grandsons, Dennis (Tracey-Anne), Neal, and Martin; great-grandson, Terrance; daughter-in-law, Patricia Manning; brothers-in-law, Donald (Helen) Bauchman, Perry (Rosemary) Bauchman; several nieces and cousins. He was predeceased by his beloved son, Terry. Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to Lohnes Funeral Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). There will be no visitation at the family's request. Funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, March 13, in Lohnes Funeral Service Chapel, Windsor, with Rev. Jeffrey G. White officiating. A reception will be held in the funeral home's Elmcroft Reception Centre, followed by interment in Centre Falmouth Cemetery, Town Road, Falmouth. Family flowers only, please.
