Born in the family home in Hardwood Lands, Hants Co., he was a son of Alfred and Jean (Lacey) Scothorn, Hardwood Lands. He was a graduate of Nova Scotia Agricultural College and a partner in the development of Scothorn Farms Ltd., Hardwood Lands. He was past president of the Nova Scotia Holstein Association; chairman of the Sire Selection Committee, Nova Scotia Animal Breeders Co-op, and an active 4-H leader and dairy judge. Donald was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Canada and the New Caledonia Curling Club, Pictou. He had been a resident of Lyons Brook since 1983. Besides his parents, he is survived by his wife, the former Marlene MacDonald; sons, Jeffrey and wife Ruth, Port Williams; Daniel, Saskatoon, Sask.; Alexander and Bradley, both of Lyons Brook; brothers, Michael and Gary, both of Hardwood Lands; sister, Janet Everett, Moncton, N.B.; maternal grandmother, Bella Lacey; 23 nieces and nephews and a grandnephew. He was predeceased by brother, Reginald; maternal grandfather, Willard Lacey; paternal grandparents, Reginald and Edna (Kelly) Scothorn; great-uncle, Percy Scothorn.
