(Red) Knox, a 49-year old former Caribou resident, apparently died of carbon monoxide poisoning. He was found dead several hundred yards off the Perham Road near Carson Siding Wednesday, Dec. 25. He had been reported missing Nov. 23. An Autopsy performed in Caribou found no evidence of foul play. Mr. Knox was born in Presque Isle Sept. 10, 1925 and was the son of Stanley and Mary (Condon) Knox. He owned Knox Oil Co. in Caribou for many years, and later managed Nelson Freightways in Caribou. He was associated with Maine Potato Growers in Presque Isle. Mr. Knox was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Caribou, the Caribou Lions club, the Lister-Knowlton Post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Henry B. Pratt Jr. Post of the American Legion in Caribou. He served in the U.S.Army in World War II. Mr. Knox is survived by his wife, Helen (Manzer) Knox of Presque Isle; one son, Bernard C. Knox Jr. of Presque Isle; two daughters, Miss Letitia Knox of the University of Maine at Orono and Miss Mary Elizabeth Knox of Presque Isle; six brothers, Marshall Knox of Suffield, Conn., Elwood Knox of Augusta, Paul Knox of Westfield and James, Stanley and Richard Knox, all of Presque Isle; one half-brother, George Knox of Eddington; and three sisters, Mrs. Dalton (Jennie) Woodman of Presque Isle, Mrs. Guy (Ruth) Lento of Blaine and Miss Nellie Knox of Presque Isle. Funeral services were held Friday at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Caribou with the Rev. Thomas Knox, rector, officiating. Those who wish are asked to contribute to their favorite charity. Arrangements were made by the Lancaster-Morgan Funeral Home in Caribou. Pallbearers were Clarence Cambridge, Ed Packard, Al Weinberg, James O'Neal, Edrick Flewelling and Perley Langley.
