A man who lived life with a work ethic that would make a mule seem lazy, and a sense of humour that could make any stony face smile, Huddie was a true character among his peers. Born into a family that experienced loss early on, Huddie stepped up as a provider for his younger siblings after his father, Hud, passed away when he was just a young man. His life was built on hard work\emdash whether that meant hauling in lobster and other fish or overseeing construction projects as a foreman, he gave his all. He was a fisherman by trade, a foreman by title, and a handyman by every phone number on every fridge in the area. No door was too crooked, no roof too leaky, and no cottage too far out of the way for him to lend a hand. If you needed something fixed, there was no better person to call\emdash well, unless you didn't want it done with a few choice words. On top of all that, he worked on his woodlot and in various other self-employed ways. Huddie was known as much for his storytelling as for his labour. Whatever story he told, you knew one thing: you were going to laugh. He had the kind of local knowledge that made him the go-to historian of the area, and his colourful commentary was the best. It didn't matter if you were friend or foe, he told the story with your good qualities and your bad on display. What made it even better was how much he enjoyed telling you \endash often laughing throughout the entire process. As a friend, Huddie was loyal, generous, and shared what he had, whether it was a few bucks or a great piece of advice. He is survived by his children Naomie (Peter) of Fredericton, NB, Hudson (Sarah) of Truro, NS, Gina (Glenn) of Fox Harbour, NS, Jody (Angela) of Port Howe, NS, Tracey (Fred) of New Annan, NS, Matthew (Chelsey) of Halifax, NS, and Bradley of Fall River, his siblings Sandy, Nancy, Heather (Andy), Ginger (Doug), Diggy/Charles (Joy), Peter (Myrna), and Eddie (Fran); grandchildren (Amber, Daniel, Clementine, Sam, Aiden, Ethan, Ashlin, Rachel, Tyler, Dante, Brady, Matilda) and great-grandchildren (Mason, Isaac, Boyd, Miigwan, Ora, and Petra) all of whom he loved dearly; and proudly nieces and nephews aplenty. He was predeceased by his wife (Mary Lou), parents (Hudson and Mary), his beloved sister (Dina/Hilda), sister-in-law (Nancy Trenholm) and brothers-in-law (Fred Hollis, Joe Webb). If we were to list his friends and relatives involved in all his shenanigans, we'd need a book, but we'd like to thank longtime friend, Bill, and best buddy, Fred. Special gratitude is offered up to the staff who cared for him so kindly and respectfully at the North Cumberland Health Care Centre. A visitation to celebrate Huddie's life will be held on Saturday, March 15 from 2-4 pm at Mundle's Funeral Home, 204 Water St, Pugwash, NS. A private interment will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to any charity of choice. Though we will miss his steady hands, quick wit, and endless stories, we find comfort knowing that he spent many of his last days with those he loved. Rest in peace, Huddie. You'll be missed more than you'll ever know. Sources Funeral Home: Mundle’s Funeral Home Pugwash,NS Obituary March 2025 Images Hudson P. Trenholm
