Birth Born on 1939 in Alberta, Canada Death Died on August 30, 2021 in Calgary, Calgary Region, AB Marriages DAWSON, Loretta Jean Married on 1963 Notes Occupation: Canadian Armed Forces Army Warrant Officer/ HMC Dockyard Esquimalt,BC Obituary: Peter Ernest Kolbe 1939 ~ 2021 In his 82nd year, retired Warrant Officer, Peter Kolbe, passed away peacefully at Colonel Belcher Veteran's Wing in Calgary, AB on August 30th after a courageous battle with dementia and Alzheimer's disease. Predeceased by his wife Loretta (2015), his parents Wilhelm and Teresa Kolbe, brother Donald Kolbe and sister Sharon Boyer (Dale) all of Edson, AB, and dear friend 'Okie' of Victoria, BC. Sadly, shortly after Peter's passing, his younger brother Douglas Kolbe of Hinton, AB also passed away. Peter served in the Canadian Armed Forces with the 1st Battalion, Queen's Own Rifles of Canada and the 3rd Battalion, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry. Peter did tours in post-war Germany and Europe as part of NATO duty and four UN peacekeeping missions to Cyprus. After retiring from the military in 1981, Peter worked at HMC Dockyard Esquimalt, rounding out a 40-year career in the federal government. In 2012, Peter was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in recognition of his significant contributions and achievements. After arriving in Victoria in 1957 for basic training at Camp Gordon Head from 'cold' Alberta, Peter immediately fell in love with the city and its climate. Most of Peter's working and retirement years were spent in Victoria, where he enjoying fishing, camping and tending to his beautiful vegetable garden and fruit trees. Both he and Loretta loved to entertain friends and family from across Canada, and dote on their grandchildren. A celebration of Peter's life will be held in Victoria at a later date.
