  • Obituary: May 01, 1941 ~ March 12, 2015 We are devastated to announce the passing of Loretta Jean Kolbe (nee Dawson) in her 73rd year. She will be sadly missed by her loving husband of 51 years, Peter, one daughter; one son and two granddaughters; one brother; one sister; special aunt Lea 'Okie' Dragland and large extended family, many close friends and wonderful neighbours. She is predeceased by her father Vincent Dawson and mother Mary Jane Dawson (nee Cameron). Loretta was born in Nova Scotia and moved to Calgary in her late teens where she met the love of her life, Peter, a career soldier with the Canadian Armed Forces. They settled in Victoria to raise their family. An avid homemaker, she loved to cook and bake - her family and friends were always eager to try her new or "tried and true" delicacies. Loretta was very active; whether it was square dancing, line dancing, shopping (one of her favourite past-times) or entertaining, Loretta was always on the go. Pete and Loretta's house was a destination for family and friends from across Canada; there was always a freshly made bed, hot meal and good company waiting for anyone paying a visit. Family always came first for Loretta, who doted on her granddaughters any chance she got. Famous for her "newsy" emails and weekly phone calls to family and friends, Loretta always took the time to keep in touch, lend an ear and share stories. She was truly a caring, loving and kind person and those in her company were made to feel 'extra' special. She cared deeply for the elderly and always made time for those in need of a friend. Loretta's family would like to thank all the caring and compassionate physicians, nurses and health care aids at the Royal Jubilee Hospital and the BC Cancer Agency, whom cared for Loretta during her courageous battle. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the BC Cancer Foundation. A celebration of Loretta's life will be held in May.
