  • Obituary: Halifax Herald 1/31/2004 MURPHY, Reginald Leon - 88, Halifax, died Thursday, January 29, 2004, in Camp Hill Veterans' Memorial Building, QEII. Born in Wolfville, September 20, 1915, he was a son of the late Frank and Clara (nee Krumrei) Murphy. Reg served in the Royal Canadian Regiment during the Second World War. It was while stationed in England that he met, fell in love with an married Stella Mott. Following the war, Reg completed a B.A. and a B.Ed. at Acadia University, graduating in 1950. He held many teaching and administrative positions, notably principal of Hampton Grey Memorial School. At the time of his retirement in 1978, he was Curriculum Consultant with Halifax County School Board. Reg enjoyed traveling, making trips to Australia, England, the Bahamas and the Mediterranean. He was proud to be in Holland for the 50th Anniversary Liberation Celebrations in 1995. He was adventurous with gardening, cooking and home renovations. He was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Lumsden Branch 74, Wolfville. He is survived by his children, Linda Collins (John), Bundaberg, Australia; Drew (Charlotte MacAulay), Eastern Passage; Jennifer Deveau (Paul), Tantallon; Theresa Wilson (David), Auburn; John (Sharon), Bedford; Toni Heatley (George), Head Jeddore; brother, George, Wolfville; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Stella; brothers, Vernon, Roy, Paul, Avard, Cyril, Eric; sister, Louise Davidson. Visitation will be held 2-4 p.m. Sunday, February 1, in H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home, 568 Main St., Wolfville. Funeral service to be held 1 p.m. Monday, February 2, in St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Kentville, Rev. Father Larry Pitcher officiating. A private family interment will take place in Willowbank Cemetery, Wolfville. Reception to follow at 2:30 p.m. in the Royal Canadian Legion, Wolfville. No flowers by request.
