  • Obituary: Mrs. Carroll Lovett Manning, 80, of Kentville died Sunday in Blanchard Fraser Memorial Hospital, Kentville. Born at Chester Basin, Lunenburg County, she was the former Ada C. Smith, daughter of the late Edward and Annie Smith. Her husband predeceased her. Surviving are a daughter, Elizabeth, Kentville; a sister, Marion (Mrs. Ralph Hennigar), and a brother, Lee, both of Chester. From 1918 until 1943 Mrs. Manning and her husband operated the well-known Hackmatack Inn in Chester. Mrs. Manning was an active Red Cross Worker and served as president of that organization in Chester, and she also served as chairman of the Ajax Hospitality Club which was formed to entertain visiting troops during the Second World War. Mrs. Manning has resided with her daughter in Kentville for the past five years. Funeral service was held Tuesday, January 2nd at 2:30 p.m. in the Davis Funeral Home, Chester, Rev. Allan Gibson officiating. Burial was in Pinehill Cemetery, Chester. (hand written on obituary - January 1973)
