  • Obituary: 91, went to be with the Lord on June 16, 2013. He was born in Kingston, on No-vember 14, 1921 to Mable and William Hatt. Paul loved being outdoors and spent many hours in the orchards in the Annapolis Valley during the summer and fall while attending the Academy at Kingston Bible School. After grad-uating, he joined the army and served in Germany with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders. He was a veteran of the Second World War and at a later stage he was only one of two, of the originals in his Infan-try Platoon. Paul returned home af-ter the war in 1945 and met his future bride, Carrie Mattatall and in October of 1948 they were married in Dartmouth. They bought their first home on Newcastle Street where they resided for the next 50 years. They had no children of their own but they both had a deep desire to share their love for the Lord and their faith with children so began holding Sunday School in Tuff's Cove in 1953. After many years this small endeavour grew and was the beginnings of Northbrook Bible Chapel. Paul was employed in con-stru ction for s ome time and then his love for the outdoors and for people he obtained employment at the Dartmouth Post Office and was a postman until he retired. In 2006 Paul and Carrie moved into an apartment and then due to failing health Paul moved to Camp Hill Veterans' Memorial Building, QEII, in Halifax. Carrie spent many hours with Paul and they enjoyed each others company. Carrie put a phone in Paul's room so they could talk when she was unable to visit. Often Paul would put his hand on the phone and with a twinkle in his eye say to Carrie, 'I'm glad we have this'. Carrie passed away on May 1, 2012 and just the other day Paul said to one of the staff on 6 West . 'It's time for me to go and be with my wife'. Paul is survived by broth-er, Mark (Mary) Hatt, British Co-lumbia; brother-in-law, Eugene (Barbara) Mattatall; sisters-in-law, Gwen Hatt, Reby Mattatall, Lorraine Mattatall and Marilyn Langton and many nieces and ne-phews. As Paul's family, we would like to express our sincere thanks to Dr. Flinn and Joan Bonaface of the Nova Scotia Hospital and Camp Hill Veterans' Memorial Building, QEII, and esp ecially the staff of Jubilee 6 West for the love, care and support given Paul. Their friends at North-brook Bible Chapel held a special place in Paul and Carrie's heart and we express our gratitude to them for the love shown to them over the years.
