Notes

  • Obituary: Fifty-year Alaska resident, Eugenia "Jean" Henderson of North Pole and most recently Anchorage passed away on March 12, 2008, of Alzheimer's related complications. Jean was born on July 17, 1926, to George and Grace Carter in Vallejo, Calif. As a youth, she was an avid roller skater and worked at Mare Island, where she met her first husband, William, and gave birth to her daughter, Linda. Later after marrying her second husband, Bill, an Air Force officer, they traveled around the United States and had three sons. After her children were raised, she began painting, and her work is being proudly displayed in her family's homes. Later she and Bill became owners of a cafe and bar in Moose Creek. She loved flowers and always looked forward to her spring gardening. She was a wonderful mother and wife and was always devoted to her children and to others who knew her as "Mom." Jean was a great cook and always made the holiday season very special with decorations and baking goodies. Her family will remember her love, sense of humor, caring, courage and strength and she will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her mother and father; her sister, Shirley; and her son, Michael. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Glenn Morrison; sons, Wade and Brett Henderson; grandchildren, Krystal and her husband Ted Meyer, Stapheon Henderson and Cameron and Jamison Morrison; great-grandchildren, Hunter, Madison, Jayden and Talyn Meyer; her sister, Barbara Lee; and brother, Bob Carter. A graveside service will be held in the spring in Anchorage. In lieu of flowers, donations to the local Alzheimer's Association at 1750 Abbott Road, Anchorage, AK 99507, in her name, will be greatly appreciated.
