  • Obituary: Edward W. Watts Jr., 92, of Plainfield, passed away January 12, 2022. He was born August 14, 1929 to the late Edward W. Watts Sr., and Frances (Oldham) Preusser. Prior to graduation and while working at his father's jewelry store, Ed earned Apprentice Watch Maker and Registered Watch Maker certifications. He graduated from Plainfield High School in 1948 and soon went off to active duty with the U.S. Navy where he served as Radarman Third Class on the Destroyer Escort, USS Coolbaugh and the Amberjack 522 submarine. After serving in the Navy during WWII and the Korean War, Ed had a career with the FAA where he was a supervisor with Air Traffic Control for over 20 years. Ed was a Cub Scout Leader and served many years as a Boy Scout Leader in Plainfield for Troop 399. Ed and family enjoyed taking camping vacations around the Midwest. He built a lakefront home in Brazil Indiana enjoying many years of fishing and outdoor fun with his family and grandchildren. Ed was a great storyteller and loved to share about his service in the Navy. He was honored to be accepted for an Indy Honor Flight to Washington DC. He was a member of Beech Grove United Methodist Church in Greencastle IN, and a member and Past Master of the Mooresville Masonic Lodge #65. Over the years he was active in Eastern Star, Knights Templar, York Rite Masons, the American Legion and the Tin Can Sailors. Ed is survived by a son, Gregory A. (Alicia) Watts; two daughters, Jeanine R. (Curt Marsh) DeLashmit and Brenda S. (Steven) Welker; 7 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean A. Watts and a son, Rodney Watts.
