  • Obituary: Dr. Lawrence Edwin Corbett, 80, of Mayfield Drive, Clarion, formerly of Shippenville, died at 11 p.m. Thursday, April 6, 2000, in Clarion Hospital. Born Aug. 31, 1919, in Strattanville, he was a son of Edward Blair and Dora Clover Corbett. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in Guadalcanal. Dr. Corbett was a graduate of Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Mo., and served his internship in Grove City. In 1955, he joined the staff of Clarion Hospital where he had privileges in medicine, surgery, obstetrics, gynecology, pediatrics and orthopedics. Dr. Corbett opened a private practice in January 1956 in Shippenville where he remained until his retirement in June 1986. He served as secretary in 1962 of the medical staff of Clarion Hospital where he was chairman of the pediatrics department, chief of the medical staff in 1966 and co-chairman of the emergency room in 1975. Dr. Corbett was a member of the Clarion County Medical Society, the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association, the American Osteopathic Association and the American Academy of Family Practitioners. He was involved in the Masons, holding membership in the Free and Accepted Masonic Lodge No. 277 of Clarion, the Coudersport Consistory and the Erie Zem Zem Shrine. Dr. Corbett was a member of the New Rehoboth-Greenville Presbyterian Church, the Clarion County Historical Society and held membership in many other local community organizations throughout his life. He was an avid golfer and hunter. Dr. Corbett was married Oct. 11, 1955, to Bette Moore, who died in March 1982. Surviving are two daughters, Barbara Shook and her husband, Jack, of Clarion and Cheryl Hartman and her friend, Mike Hayes, of Richmond, Va.; three grand children, Randy Shook and his wife, Rhonda, of Clarion, Pam Carlson and her husband, Greg, of Florence, S.C., and Kris Bowser and her husband, Steve, of Shippenville RD; and five great-grand children, Kaleb and Kelsey Carlson, Brandon and Brooke Bowser and Lindsay Shook. He also is survived by three sisters, Winifred Chapman of Strattanville, Jean Carroll of Clarion and Grace Kisner of California. In addition to his parents and wife, Dr. Corbett was preceded in death by five brothers, Ray Corbett, Chuck Corbett, Allen Corbett, Jack Corbett and Paul Corbett; and one sister, Georgia Hartzell. There will be no public visitation. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 22, in the New Rehoboth-Greenville Presbyterian Church with the Rev. James Dietrich, pastor of the church, and the Rev. Kirk Orr, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Clarion, officiating. Interment will be in the Clarion Cemetery. The Robert V. Burns Funeral Home of Clarion is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the New Rehoboth-Greenville Presbyterian Church; the Clarion Hospital; the American Cancer Society; or to the Clarion-Forest Visiting Nurses Association.
