  • Obituary: Chronicle Herald Halifax,NS March 6,2003 MacPHEE, Douglas Carl - 79, Upper Nine Mile River, passed away March 4, 2003, in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born in Upper Rawdon, he was a son of the late Haley and Viola (Grant) MacPhee. He was a member of East Gore United Church and was always active in community events. Doug was a mechanic and a truck driver until he retired, working for National Gypsum, Municipal Spraying Contracting Ltd. and the Department of Transportation as well as owning his own trucks and water delivery service. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather and his family and friends meant everything to him. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Shirley (Tanner); sons, Brian (Betty), Shubenacadie; Earle (Bonnie), East Gore; Darrell (Ellen), Nine Mile River; daughters, Margaret (Danny) Myles, Port Williams; Marylee Coolen (Greg Archibald), Enfield; Beth (Ronnie) Densmore, East Noel; Ruth (Tim) White, White Settlement; 17 grandchildren; one great-grandson; brother, Owen (Phyllis) MacPhee, East Gore; sister, Audrey Delvecchio, Florida; numerous nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by his dog "Queenie". He was predeceased by brothers, Harold, Lawrence, Robert, Gerald; sister, Anna (Ranel) Lively; grandson in infancy. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in Withrow-MacMillan Funeral Home, Upper Nine Mile River. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, March 7, in East Gore United Church, Chuck Paterson officiating. Spring burial in Sand Hill Cemetery, Upper Nine Mile River. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to East Gore United Church, ICU of Colchester Regional Hospital or a charity of your choice. Special thanks to the First Responders, paramedics, Intensive Care Unit especially Debbie McCully and Dr. Iain MacNeil, Elmsdale Medical Centre. In the last years, Doug has battled cancer, heart problems, lung difficulties and Alzhiemer's and we never heard him complain, he was an inspiration to us all.
