  • Obituary: Carter, Leon Orland - 83, Middleboro, Cumb. Co., passed away Thursday, August 11, 2011, in the East Cumberland Lodge, Pugwash. Born in Hartford, he was a son of the late George and Sadie (Campbell) Carter. Leon had owned and operated a mixed farm in Middleboro and worked for 28 years with the Department of Highways. Surviving are his wife, Vera May (Bezanson) Carter; daughter, Jean (Norman) Gower, Wentworth; sons, Wilfred Carter (Maggie), Prince George, B.C.; Orland Carter (Debbie), Wentworth; step-daughters; Jean Carter, Coralie Ripley, Debbie Blades, Yvonne Moore and Laura Hunter; step-sons, Billy, Donald, Sammy, Danny, and Orville Blades; sisters, Laura (Fred) Messom, Quesnel, B.C.; Darlene (Warwick) Pollard, Millet, AB.; Margaret (Sterling) Savoy, Saint John, N.B.; Annie O'Brien, Hartford; brothers, George Carter, Tatamagouche; Vernon (Jean) Carter, Hartford; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his first wife, Lillian (Carter); daughter, Pansy Crawford; son-in-law, Curtis Crawford; grandsons, Joseph and Darrin Crawford; sister, Eileen MacDonald; brother-in-law, Jack MacDonald. In keeping with Leon's wishes there will be no visitation or funeral service. A graveside service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, August 14, in the Riverside Cemetery, Wallace River. Rev. Morley Bentley officiating. No flowers please. Donations in memory may be made to the Diabetes Association, the Canadian Cancer Society or any charity. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mundle's Funeral Home, 204 Water St., Pugwash (243-2506).
