  • Obituary: July 31, 1927 - August 11, 2014 Carter, Vera May '96 87, Middleboro, passed away Monday, August 11, 2014, at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Amherst. Born in Otter Brook, she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Elizabeth "Bessie" (Whalen) Bezanson. Vera was well known for her quality knitting and quilting. She enjoyed doing crafts, puzzles of all kinds, playing her guitar, and was even a decent yodeler. Surviving are daughters, Jean (Vernon) Carter, Hartford; Coralie Ripley (Larry), Point Butte, N.B.; Deborah Blades, Saskatoon, Sask.; Yvonne (Bill) Moore, Middleboro; Laura (Dennis) Hunter, Sackville, N.B.; sons, William Blades (June), River Phillip; Donald Blades, Middleboro; Samuel (Wanda) Blades, Pugwash Jct.; Daniel (Kim) Blades, Street's Ridge; Orville (Kathleen) Blades, Middleboro; step-sons, Wilfred Carter (Maggie), Prince George, B.C.; Orland Carter (Debbie), Wentworth; 38 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; brother, Harold (Lana) Bezanson, Antigonish; sisters, Alma Swinemer, Dartmouth; Frances Innis, Marion Bridge; Joan McNutt, Truro; Karen (Bill) Grace, Truro; Freda Carter (Kenny), Tatamagouche; many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by husbands, Wendell Blades and Leon Carter; grandson, Christopher Ripley; brothers, William, Ervin, John, Douglas and Lorne Bezanson; sisters, Rosamond and Shirley Bezanson in infancy; Eileen Geldart; step daughters, Jean Gower and Pansy Crawford; step grandsons, Joey and Darren Crawford; lifelong friend, Reginald Jeffers. In keeping with Vera's wishes there will be no visitation or public funeral service. A private graveside service will be held in Riverside Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation.
