  • Obituary: Charles J. Karnolt, 90, of Mystic CT, beloved husband of the late Doris ((Rand) Karnolt passed away peacefully, Saturday, September 27, 2008 at Westerly Hospital. Born in New York NY he was the son of the late Charles and Matilda (Horacek) Karnolt. Charles resided in Mystic since 2001 previously residing in West Palm Beach Fl and Glastonbury CT for most of his life. He retired in 1980 from Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford after many years of dedicated service. Charles was a 32nd Degree Mason, an active member and Treasurer of the Golden Agers of Stonington, and also dedicated his time and efforts in being a caregiver with the Alzheimers Assoc. He loved to play pinochle at the Groton Senior Center, and was an avid fisherman. Charlie or the "Mystic Sea Dog" as he was referred to by family and friends, spent many years sailing the surrounding waters in his sail boat. He leaves his five children, Charles L. Karnolt and his wife, Nancy, of Goshen, Dianne B. Casper and her husband, William, of Malvern, PA, William R. Karnolt and his wife, Amy, of Powhatton, VA, Alan E. Karnolt and his wife, Catherine, of East Hampton, CT, and Joel K. Karnolt and his wife, Marie, of Manchester, CT; his sister, Frances Cully of Guilford CT; fifteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, sister-in-law, Janet Rand of Jupiter FL; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 4, 2008 at 12:00 pm at the Mystic Funeral Home Route 1 Mystic. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends 11-12 prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the Groton Senior Center 102 Newton Rd. Groton CT. 06340 where he'll be remembered for his smiles, laughter, and his card playing.
