Of Wilmot, was born June 13th, 1808, and died August 17th, 1868. Bro. S. was baptized in the spring of the year 1836; and was a steadfast and useful member of the church with which he united, to the close of his life. He was a man of prayer, both in his family, and in religious meetings. Though he declined holding the office of a deacon, yet at the deacon's request he frequently took the lead in prayer meetings. Bro. Stronach faithfully discharged the duties of a magistrate during the last 23 years of his life. He was also an active promoter of the Temperance cause, and filled the office of Secretary of the Total Abstinence Society on Stronach Mountain about 18 years. He likewise labored diligently in the Sabbath School, of which at times he was Superintendent. Our departed brother was an affectionate husband and a kind father. He has left a sorrowing widow and 8 mourning children; of whom all, except the youngest, who is quite young, are members of a Baptist church, or churches. When visited by his pastor during his last illness \endash 16 days of acute suffering \endash he expressed patient submission and steadfast hope. Near the close of his sickness he requested to be carried into another room, and laid on the lounge, where he prayed audibly and fervently for deliverance from this world of sin and death, and for Jesus to be with him while passing through the dark valley and shadow of death. He entreated the family not to mourn for him, as the separation would be short, till they would meet again. On the day before his decease he became quite free from pain; and in the issue his prayer appeared to be graciously answered, as he passed quietly and peacefully away, without a sigh of a groan. His funeral was attended by a large and sympathizing assembly, who were addressed by the pastor from 1 Thes. iv. 14. "For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him." \endash Com. By Rev. C. Tupper.
