Notes

  • Obituary: John Kendall Fisher Sr., 95, of Sunapee, NH, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2018. He was born in Boston, MA on July 10, 1922, the son of Edith F. (Merrill) Fisher. He had been a longtime summer resident of Mt. Sunapee, NH before permanently moving to Sunapee in 1995. Prior to 1995, he lived in Quincy and Holbrook, MA. He was a resident at Sunapee Cove Assisted Living. John served in the United States Army during World War II from 1942 to 1945, when he was honorably discharged. Prior to joining the Army he worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps. The CCC was founded by President Franklin D. Roosevelt as part of his "New Deal" Public Works Program that put 3 million men to work during the Great Depression of the 1930's and 1940's. The program began in 1933 and ended at the start of World War II in 1942. John was paid $1 a day and was required to send $22 home each month to his mother. In 1947 he married Barbara A. (Barnes) Fisher of Malden, MA, then moved to Holbrook MA. He worked for 38 years as a machinist for Pneumatic Scale in Quincy, MA before he, Barbara, and the Braided Rug Shop retired to Sunapee, NH. There was nothing more important to John than his family, and he loved having them all together. Although it was hard for him moving to Sunapee Cove without Barbara, he courageously put one foot in front of the other and began a new chapter in his long life. He loved playing music on his CD player and was always singing to anyone who would listen. Yes, he did it "My Way." John is predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Barbara A. (Barnes) Fisher; and his daughter, Linda C. (Fisher) Robinson. He is survived by his remaining three children and their spouses: Janet and John Fitzgerald, Linda's husband David Robinson, Marjorie and Lari Bell, and John and Diane Fisher. John always enjoyed his 11 grandchildren, Tom, Dan, Kelly, Kristen, Derrick, Casey, Joshua, Rebecca, Janet, Jill, and David Jr.; and his 12 great-grandchildren, Fiona, Alexis, Kayla, K. J., James, Kendall, Rylie, Chase, Payton, Declan, Jack, and Luke; and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of John's wonderful life will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, Newport, NH, followed by burial with full military honors.
