  • Obituary: Harold Merton Crapo, 86, of Hillsdale, Michigan, formerly of Jonesville and Florida, passed away August 13, 2008 at Drews Place Village Green in Hillsdale. He was born October 24, 1921 in Allen to Harold H. & Marguerite (Brakefield) Crapo. He was married September 25, 1942 to Phyllis Jean Bricker and she preceded him in death in 1971. He was married October 19, 1974 to Ila Woods Crapo and she survived him. Mert was a graduate of Allen High School and a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force. He was a member of the Jonesville American Legion for over 50 years and a member of the Hillsdale United Methodist Church. Mert was retired from the U. S. Postal Service having served in Jonesville and in Reading as Postmaster for seven years. He was an avid card player and fisherman. Surviving besides his wife, Ila, were two daughters, Sheilia "Sherri" (Roger) Denning of LaBelle, Florida and Beth (Lee) Leibold of Highland Village, Texas; three stepsons, David (Susan) Woods of Indianapolis, Indiana, Douglas (Carrie) Woods of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Donald (Sheri) Woods of Scottsdale, Arizona; three sisters, Arlene ( James) Hurley of Allen, Norene (James) Ganger of Ft. Myers, Florida and Nancy Swallow of Quincy; one brother, Duane (Denise) Crapo of Cookeville, Tennessee; four grandchildren, six step-grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Besides his first wife Phyllis, he was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Norma.
