  • Obituary: Mary Elizabeth Barnes, Mount Thom, Pictou Co., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 25, 2010 in the Palliative Care Unit of Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Riverview, Cumberland Co., she was a daughter of the late James Wesley and Ethel Rebecca (Dixon) Dixon. Mary was a hair dresser by profession who enjoyed baking and cooking especially for the family gatherings. Her family was always the biggest part of her life and she dearly enjoyed all of them. The continuous visits by her children and grand children were the highlights of her life. She will be sadly missed by daughter Sharon Keay (John), New Glasgow; sons, Dave (Sadie), Mount Thom; Terry (Dale), Alma; grandchildren Brian Barnes, Salt Springs; Debi Barnes, Truro; Gordie Barnes, Mount Thom, Tony Stevens, Westville; Stephanie Rogerson, Abercrombie; Louanne Keay, Toronto; Billy Joe Keay, Toronto; Marilyn Keay, Dartmouth; Cory Barnes, Alma; Kyle Barnes, Alma; sixteen great grandchildren and one great great grand child. She was also survived by sister, Clara MacLean , Pictou. She was predeceased by her husband of sixty years, Gordon Barnes; sisters, Nina Stewart and Bernice Tait and brothers Fred and Edmund Dixon. Visitations will be held 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. Her funeral service will be held 1 o'clock Friday from St. Luke's Presbyterian Church, Salt Springs with the Rev. Barb Fotheringham officiating. Burial will be in Stillman Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations in her memory may be made to the Palliative Care Society of the Aberdeen Hospital, St. Luke's Presbyterian Church or a charity of one's choice.
