  • Obituary: John Linwood "Stud Bolt" Sweet, 78, of Frederick County, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, January 22, 2015, in Winchester Medical Center. Mr. Sweet was born in Hyde Park, Vermont in 1936, the son of the late John and Fernwood Sweet, Sr. He was a graduate of Johnson High School in Vermont. Mr. Sweet was a veteran having served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was employed with the U.S. Government for FEMA at Mount Weather in the maintenance department. Mr. Sweet was a member of Boyce Volunteer Fire Company, the Potomac/ Shenandoah Antique Tractor and Engine, Inc., and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Aerie # 824. He married Marjory Baker on February 14, 1960, in Boyce, Virginia. She preceded him in death on April 19, 2009. Surviving are two daughters, Pamela Herbaugh and husband, Jerry, Alison Strowbridge and husband, Hunter, all of Winchester; son, John D. "J.D" Sweet and wife, Amy, of Wytheville, Virginia; step-daughter, Katherine Danner and husband, Lee; grandchildren, Lisa Pollak and husband, Nicholas, Mike Herbaugh, Matt Sweet, Kristin Sweet, Nathan Strowbridge, Jenna Strowbridge and several other grandchildren and great grandchildren. One sister, Fernwood Gates, and two brothers, Elmer Gates and Richard Gates, preceded him in death. The family will receive friends on Sunday, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel, with Pastor Trey Hensley officiating. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park, Frederick County, Virginia. Serving as Pallbearers will be members of the Boyce Volunteer Fire and Rescue Co. Memorial contributions may be made to Boyce Volunteer Fire and Rescue, 7 Greenway Avenue South, Boyce, Virginia 22620 or Millwood Station Volunteer Fire and Rescue, 250 Costello Drive, Winchester, Virginia, 22602. An obituary was published in the Northern Virginia Daily on Saturday, January 24, 2015.
