  • Obituary: Halifax Herald 8/1/2005 ******************* LAMONT, Helen Sara - 82, Robie Street, Truro, formerly of Middle Stewiacke and Willow Street in Halifax, passed away July 30, 2005, in Colchester Regional Hospital. Born in Castle Reigh on May 15, 1923, she was the eldest daughter of the late Warren and Louise (MacKinnon) Rushton. She was the beloved wife of Douglas Richard Lamont. Helen worked as a PBX operator for many years with the National Harbour Board, Wm. Stairs Son and Morrow, Citadel Motors and the IWK Children's Hospital. She had been a member of the Order of the Royal Purple. Until her stroke four years ago, Helen loved spending summers at the cottage. She faced her illness and blindness with great strength and she always had a warm smile for her family and friends. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Sandra Bonita (Don) Cunningham, Halifax, and granddaughter Kim Ellamay Cunningham, CFB Gagetown, N.B. She is also survived by her daughter, Louise (Russell) Cooke and her daughter Anna, Portapique, as well as her late son's children, John, Bonnie and Roseann Richards, all of Debert. Surviving also is her sister, Audrey (Ralph) MacDonald-Hunter, as well as many nieces and nephews in Springhill. Helen was predeceased by her son, Joe (William) Richards; brother, William; sisters, Florence Amon and Blanche Forrest-Maxwell. A special thanks to her personal caregivers Lois MacLean, Carole Doran, Dorisann Smith and Wilda Jewers. Cremation has taken place. A private memorial service will be held in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., for family and personal friends. No flowers by request of the family. Donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, the Canadian National Institute for the Blind or a charity of choice.
