Notes

  • Obituary: Marilyn Virginia McClaren Mackey left this life Sunday, February 2, 2020 at The Heights of Atascosa Nursing Home in Pleasanton, TX, where she had resided for the past two years. She went to meet her loved ones who had gone on before her and to await the day of the Lord. She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ in Three Rivers, TX. She was born into this life on July 15, 1942 in Beaumont, Texas to William Lafayette McClaren known as "Big Bill" and Alice Louise Oedamer Allen McClaren. She grew up in Dallas and graduated from Kimball High School in 1960. She married the love of her life, Charles Leaman Mackey, Jr. on July 4, 1961 in Dallas, just weeks after his return from his Army service. Charlie became a preacher for churches of Christ and his job led them to live in Texas, Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Maine. Their son Jeff was born in 1964 and they adopted Kevin from the Maude Carpenter's Children's Home in Wichita, Kansas, about 1969, when he was 8 years old. Marilyn worked as the head bank teller for many of the early years and her last years of work, she spent working in almost every department of Wal-Mart. After Charlie passed in 2006, she moved to Branson, Missouri to be with her son Kevin, and his family. While she lived in Branson, she volunteered at the local hospital at the information kiosk for several years. Through the years she, as a preacher's wife, taught Bible classes, hosted fellowships, was a Girl Scout troop leader, volunteered and helped others, and later, even taught a granddaughter how to drive (or at least let Amanda chauffeur her around.) She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Charlie, her brother Mike McClaren and other family members and friends. She leaves behind: son, Jeff Mackey of Houston, TX; son Kevin Mackey and wife Sallie of Three Rivers, TX; grandchildren Amanda and her husband Jonathan Shouse of Aurora, CO and Katie Mackey of Three Rivers, TX; her brother William "Bill" McClaren Jr. of Santa Fe, NM; and sister-in-laws: Lorena Mackey of LA, Collette Comstock of San Antonio, TX, Florence McClaren of Weatherford, TX; and nieces and nephews. Her family and friends will remember her as a good Christian woman who loved others, enjoyed being with friends, had a wry sense of humor, loved reading and history. Memorials may be left in her memory to the Sunny Glen Children's Home in San Benito, TX, the Foster Children's Home in Stephenville, TX or Maude Carpenter's Children's Home in Wichita, KS. She will be interred at the Huckabay Cemetery in Erath County, Texas.
