  • Obituary: NEWTON -- John "Jack" S. Carder, 74, formerly of Westport, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 1996. He was the husband of Joan (Sullivan) Carder and son of Lucille (Steadman) Carder of Newton and the late Nathaniel Carder. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he lived in Newton for almost 65 years and Westport. He was employed for Raytheon in New Bedford as an engineer for 40 years until his retirement in 1986. Mr. Carder was a graduate from Newton High School and Northeastern University, where he played on the school's hockey team. A past vice president of Longwood Cricket Club in Bookline, Mr. Carder was also a member of the Second Church in Newton and Acoaxet Tennis Club in Westport. Survivors include his wife; his mother; a daughter, Carolyn Carder O'Connell of Lowell and several nieces and nephews. Arrangements are by the Blackington, Conroy & Hayes Funeral Home, 1479 Washington St., West Newton.
