  • Obituary: Raymond Eustace Carter '96 82, Brookfield, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 12, 2013, with his family by his side, at Elk Court, Brookfield. Born July 2, 1931, in Brookfield, he was the son of the late Bertrum Eustace Carter (Brookfield) and Hilda Beatrice (Miller) Carter. (Formerly of Malagash). From the time Ray was a teenager, he began working in the woods with his father & George Sutherland. He worked tirelessly at his jobs, being employed with Latimer Construction and Brookfield Creamery in the early 1960s and in 1965 went to work with Lafarge Canada Inc., where he remained for 27 years. Ray loved the outdoors, going to the woods with his horses and would always have a faithful companion by his side. He had a way with animals and it was evident as you would see him work with his horses and his dogs. His enthusiasm for his family history brought out many memories and stories that would be told numerous times, each time always sounding like the very first time ever told. He truly enjoyed all his vacations to Alberta, living his life long dream of working on a ranch and he met many lifelong friends while traveling there. Ray is survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty (Moore) Carter; children, Irene Morrisey, Riverview, New Brunswick; Leonard, Brookfield; Joy (Walter) Wasson, Truro; Janet (Wayne) Reade, Greenfield; Dawn (Donald) Henderson, Brookfield; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Along with his parents, Ray was predeceased by his sister, Rose Chaplin; brother-in-law, Roy Chaplin; niece, Heather Chaplin; son-in-law, Bruce Morrisey; granddaughter, Suzanne Reade. Special thanks are extended to the staff at Elk Court, especially Creamery Lane, for their exceptional care. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, August 15, 2013, at Knox United Church, 51 Highway 289, Brookfield, Reverend Larry Harrison officiating. Private family interment in Brookfield Eastside Cemetery. All are welcome to join with Ray's family for a reception in the church hall immediately following the service and the family will join with you following the interment. Family flowers only.
