  • Obituary: Murphy, Lester- 89 of North-Cumberland Veterans Unit, Pictou, passed away October 17, 2010 in the unit. Born in Cape John, He was the son of the late James and Edna (Langille) Murphy. Lester fough tin the Second World War with the S.D, and G Regiment and was wounded on April 7, 1944 in Holland. An avid card and crib player; he was a member of New Horizons Senior Citizens Club, Pictou, and was also interested in harness rac-ing, rug hooking, painting and also enjoyed attending auctions. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 16, Pictou. Lester worked at Hamilton's Biscuit Factory Pictou Shipyards, also worked on the con-struction of Scott Paper, and retired as a bartender from the Pictou Legion. Lester is survived by children, James (Linda), Jane (Gary) Muir, June Ran-kin, Betty (Rick) MacDonald, all of Pictou; Dale (Darlene), Somerset; Margo Murphy (Malcolm Halliday), Stellarton; Laureen (Bob) MacDonald, Ron (Tanya), both of Lyons Brook; 21 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchil-dren, and one great great-grandchild; sisters, Dot, Marg and Pearl, several nieces and nephews. He was prede-ceased by his wife Laura; son, Frank; grandsons, Jason and Sean; brother, Milo; sister, Ann; son-in-law, Ray; daughter-in-law, Donna. Visitation will be held 2-4, 7-9 p,m. Tuesday in McLaren Funeral Home. Pictou. Fu-neral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. James Anglican Church, Pictou, with Rev. Aidan Kingsbury officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall. Crema-tion will then take place with burial at a later date in Seaview Cemeterv. Family flowers only please. Donations in his memory may be made to the Northumberland Veterans Wing, Pic-tou.
