  • Obituary: Donna Gayle Rountree passed from this life to the next on Sunday, April 13, 2008. She was born in Jacksonville on May 27, 1963 to Edward Rountree and Doris Rountree, who preceded her into heaven. Along with her father, Donna leaves behind her brother, Mickey and his wife Linda, sister Susan Gentry and her husband W.C., and sister Robin Dunn and her husband Mike. As the youngest in her family, Donna was blessed with five nieces and two nephews, as well as three great nieces and three great nephews. Donna spent her first five years in Jacksonville under the loving care of her immediate and extended family. Her uncle, Billy Rountree and wife Ann, along with their children, Jim, Edie and Kathy, were instrumental in making these early years wonderful ones for young Donna. In 1968, she moved to Rockville, MD with her family when her father took a new position in the U.S. Postal Service. She lived there until 1977, when she returned to Jacksonville. In 1983, she was awarded a vocational diploma as a nursing assistant. However, by then her mother had opened Regency Bridal Shop and Donna began working there in 1984. She continued at Regency Bridal until 1995, at which time she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. As Donna's mother aged and her health was failing, Donna became Doris's caregiver, living with her mom at Cypress Village. When it became necessary for Doris to move to the skilled nursing center at Cypress Village, Donna's loyalty continued. She visited her mother every afternoon for the last three years of Doris's life. The visits brought her mom great joy. Despite her illness, Donna's sudden passing as the result of cardiac arrest was unexpected. However, it is fitting and appropriate that she is now with her beloved mom, aunt and uncle in heaven and is healthy once again. A Memorial service for the family will be at 3:00 PM on Friday, April 18, 2008 at the gravesite in Oaklawn Cemetery.
