Notes

  • Obituary: ROUNTREE Doris Loper Rountree completed her journey on earth on January 28, 2007. Her family includes the loyal and devoted father of her children, Edward A. Rountree, son Michael E. Rountree and wife Linda, daughter Susan Rountree Gentry and husband W.C., daughter Robin Rountree Dunn and husband Mike, and daughter Donna G. Rountree. Doris also has seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, six surviving siblings, and many loving nieces and nephews. Doris's journey began on October 20, 1926 in White Oak, GA, as the daughter of Samuel Eldon Loper and Verla Jeanette Davis. She spent most of her 80 years in Jacksonville, graduating from Andrew Jackson High School. Doris married and began her family soon afterwards. She dedicated her time to serving her family, church, and community and loved them all. Doris spent about 10 years living in the Washington, DC area, but returned to Jacksonville in 1977. Soon afterwards, she opened Regency Bridal and Formal Wear on Atlantic Blvd. in Jacksonville. For over 15 years, she served hundreds of brides and bridal parties, helping to make them look perfect on their special day. Doris derived tremendous joy from her business and will be remembered by many for the special treatment she gave so willingly. After closing her business, Doris moved to the Cypress Village Retirement Community and eventually to the Nursing Center there, where she spent the final three years of her life. With daily visits from her daughter, Donna, and frequent visits from other family and friends, the last years of Doris's life were joyful and her passing peaceful. Doris Rountree's journey made the world a better place. There will be an hour of visitation and viewing from 1:00 PM, followed by services at 2:00 PM, on Wednesday, January 31st at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 4115 Hendricks Avenue, followed by a service in the Chapel and burial at Oaklawn Cemetery.
