Born in Parrsboro, he was a son of the late Burton and Mae (Forbes) Pettis. He is survived by one brother, Herbert, Parrsboro; six stepchildren; 17 stepgrandchildren; 22 step great-grandchildren; three step great great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Viola (Dowe); two children in infancy, one sister, two brothers, and one stepson. During his varied career, Russ worked many years in the lumbering industry, operated a service station for several years, and spent the remainder of his working years in the construction industry. His remains have been donated to Dalhousie University Medical Science Department. Private burial at a later date.
