Born in Somerset, Kings County, he was a son of the late Miles and Frances (Calkin) Palmer. He was a good father and a kind, honest and family orientated man. He retired from Canada Packers and in his spare time, enjoyed walking, travelling and puzzles. Gerald was also a proud member of the Billtown Baptist Church. He is survived by five daughters, Vicki (Garnet) Misner, Coldbrook; Judy (Wilson) Crann, Coldbrook; Karen (Jim) Galliott, Coldbrook; Shelly Palmer, New Minas; Jo-Ann (Tim) Jones, Waterville; a son, Gerry (Michelle), Kentville; two step-daughters, Sandra and Diane; a sister, Miriam "Mickie" Ward (Steward Purdy), Coldbrook; two brothers, Keith (Velma), Billtown; Avard (Christina "Kip"), Canning; a special friend, Marjorie Hannam, New Minas; 17 grandchildren, David, Craig, Jason, Derek, Shannon, Darryl, Michelle, Karyn, Stefanie, Bryce "B.J.", Josh, Nick, Aiden, Amber, Brendan, Christopher and Tanisha; 10 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, the former Priscilla "Pat" Kynock; a granddaughter, Tammie Galliott; his second wife, the former Hazel Smith. Visitation will be held from 3:30-5 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2008 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 6, 2008, Reverend Murray Shaw officiating. Burial will take place in the Berwick Cemetery. Family flowers only, by request. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Billtown Baptist Church.
