Born in Woodville, he was a son of Donald Boyd Burgess and the late Erminie Irene (Calkin) Burgess. From 1952-1968 he operated the D.B. Burgess Ltd. grocery store in Berwick. He attended Mount Allison University, Dalhousie University, and graduated from Acadia University with a B.Comm. and B.Ed. in 1969. He was a teacher at Sackville Heights Junior High School until 1984 and was the administrator for the Halifax County Continuing Education Program. Surviving are his wife, the former Esther Woodworth; daughters, Shawna, Jayne and husband Michael Smith, Halifax; brother, Bill Burgess and wife Marjorie, Halifax; sister, Irene and husband Douglas Brown, Kentville; niece, Johanna; nephews, Jason, Christopher; grandsons, Benjamin, Alexander. Cremation has taken place. Memorial service 2 p.m. Saturday in Temple Baptist Church, Lower Sackville. A brief reception will follow. Burial 2 p.m. Sunday in Berwick Cemetery.
