Born in Woodville, Kings Co., he was a son of the late W.B. and Jessie (Bowles) Burgess. He was a well-known apple farmer and local merchant, having owned a farm in Woodville, D.B. Burgess Grocery, Berwick, and was a partner in Burgess & Wollard Electrical, Berwick, retiring in 1975. He was an avid ham radio operator. He was an active member of Berwick United Church, having served on the session and as an elder, and had formerly been an active member of Valley Lodge 90, AF&AM. He is survived by son, William Barry (Bill) and wife Marjorie, Halifax; daughter, J. Irene (Mrs. Douglas Brown), Kentville; grandchildren, Shawna Burgess and Jayne Smith, both of Halifax; Johanna Burgess-Everett, Wellesley, Mass.; Jason and Christopher Brown, both of Moncton, N.B.; five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Erminie Irene Calkin; son, Donald Boyd; brother, George William in infancy; sister, Mary Wade. Visitation 7-9 p.m. today in H.C. Lindsay Memorial Chapel, Berwick. Funeral service 2 p.m. Tuesday from Berwick United Church, Rev. Donald MacPherson officiating. Burial in Berwick Cemetery.
