  • Obituary: Halifax Chronicle Herald February 4, 2004 "BEATTIE, Thomas Alan - Passed away February 3, 2004, at his home in Wolfville. Born July 19, 1906, in Glace Bay, he was a son of Frank and Erma Beattie. He is survived by his wife, Gertrude; son, Alan (Ann), Calgary; their children, Shelley and Mark, and two grandchildren. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Bette Bruce, Fred, Harold and Rick Young and Carol Selig. He was predeceased by his wife, Marion; son, Tommy; brothers, Harold and Fred; sisters, Evelyn Ritcey and Marion Jubien. He was devoted to his family and the town of Bridgetown. He, his brothers and father, owned and operated "The Bridgetown Monitor" weekly newspaper for many years until 1966, with Tom as editor. He served 19 years on the Bridgetown Town Council including several years as Deputy Mayor and Mayor. He served 18 years on the Bridgetown School Board, the majority as chairman. One of his proudest achievements was guiding the building of Bridgetown Regional High School and helping to bring to the school so many outstanding young teachers. He served as a deacon of the Bridgetown Baptist Church, where funeral service will be held on Friday, February 6, at 2 p.m., Rev. George Neily officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice."
