Obituary: Carter, Delbert Cyrus - It is with a profound sense of sadness that the family of Delbert Cyrus Carter announces his passing. Delbert, of Truro, formerly of East Leicester, entered Heaven's gates on December 18, 2018. Delbert was born on August 2, 1930 in Mansfield, to Walter and Ivy Carter. After his public education, Delbert worked at a variety of jobs and on November 23, 1949 he married Lillian Myatt of Oxford. Delbert joined the Canadian Forces in 1957. He worked in the Pay Corps and was posted to Toronto, Ottawa and Summerside, PEI from where he retired and returned to East Leicester. In his retirement he enjoyed his huge vegetable gardens, fishing and hunting, living life as the farmer he always wanted to be. In 2014 he and Lillian relocated to Truro. Delbert is survived by his daughters and their husbands, Pat and David Taylor, Sussex, NB; and Nancy and David Haner, Truro; his brother, Elmer, Oxford; and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Harroun, Amherst. He leaves behind four grandchildren, Barry (Nikki) Haner, Jennifer (Dana) Wright, Dwayne Taylor (Christin) and Heidi (Lee) Bird and eight great-grandchildren; Hayley and Carter Haner, Myah and Alyssa Wright, Noelle and Nathan Taylor, Abigail and Emily Bird, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Lillian, in July of 2018, his sisters, Olive and Jean; and brothers, Basil and Stuart. Following Delbert's wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral. The family will have a private committal service at a later date. Memorial gifts may be made to the charity of your choice.
