It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce Reid's peaceful passing on Sunday, December 6, 2009, at home, surrounded by his loving family, after a hard fought battle with cancer. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Ina (Burgess) Yuill. Dad was born in Beaver Brook and started work as a sawyer in the family mill. Being an extremely smart and hardworking man, he worked a variety of jobs all over Nova Scotia before settling in Bible Hill to run the Bible Hill Irving Garage. He bought out Bailey's Transfer in the 60s and ran R. Yuill Sales and Service until his retirement. His trucking business gave him many fond memories of the many miles he traveled and the people he met along the way. He always had a story to tell. After his retirement, Mom and Dad bought a home in Florida and thoroughly enjoyed their time down south, with many visits from their children, grandchildren and many friends. We knew Dad loved us by his legendary hugs. Dad will always be remembered as the man to go to with your mechanical questions, car repairs or just to talk. His garage door was always open. Dad will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Dorothy (Boomer); children, Dennis (Cathy), Brenda (Frank) Smith, Gerald, Debbie (Reg Crowe), Becky (Greg) Ash, Lynn (John) Roy; 13 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; brother, Wyman (Eileen); sister, Evelyn Chin; nieces and nephews. A heartfelt thanks to Dr. Blair, Dawn Martell of the Palliative Care Unit, Marilyn MacKean of VON and all the VON nurses who took such great care of Dad and us. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Reid's family will receive friends from 6-9 pm Tuesday and where the funeral service will be held 2 pm Wednesday, The Reverend Lori Ramsey officiating. Reception will follow in the funeral home. Interment at a later date in Bible Hill Cemetery. Family flowers only. If so desired, donations in Reid's memory to Canadian Cancer Society, VON or Palliative Care would be greatly appreciated.
