Notes

  • Obituary: Norman Lorin "Norm, Stormin Norman" MacKenzie '96 75, Tatamagouche, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2022, on his way home to Tatamagouche. Born in Truro, he was a son of the late William "Burt" and Theda (Carter) MacKenzie. Norm spent most of his life in sales for various food brokers and finally car sales at Stuart Pontiac. As he always said, "I'm not much of a salesman but a hell of a good traveller!" In his younger years, he spent many summers in Marshville at his Aunt and Uncle's cottage, thus starting his love of Tatamagouche. He enjoyed tying flies, fishing and being "The Kitchen Bitch" when hunting. Dancing, especially a jive, gave him great joy until his foot issues started. Always up for a laugh, you could find him telling a new joke to everyone he met or around the campfire at Sand Point. As everyone knows, he would never turn down a glass of red wine or a Norm's beer at Al's. He loved going to Cuba, but on his fifteenth trip his health failed him. Other special trips included a River Cruise on the Rhine, North Carolina and Port Dover to name a few. Norm was a member of 102 Wing-Air Force Association in Truro as well as Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26, Truro, but was a frequent patron of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 64, Tatamagouche. Norm is survived by his wife of 30 years, Norma (Hoeg); children, Kerry Brown, Tatamagouche; Tracy (Cory) Myers, Westville; Derek MacKenzie (Terri Watson), Dartmouth; Jennifer (Chris) Havers, Ottawa; Michael MacDonald, Dartmouth; grandchildren, Nick, Jeremy, Stephen, Lexie, Audio; great grandchildren, Sophia, Dawson, Jameson, Alexander; brother, Gordon (Cheryl) MacKenzie, St. Andrew's, New Brunswick; brother-in-law, Ed Hatfield, Truro; nephews, Darren, Scott; nieces, Pam, Stacey, Karla, Heather. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Sandra Hatfield. Special thanks are extended to Dr. Trevor Locke for his many years of care, VON (especially Heather and Candice), Palliative Care Unit at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro and Martha Ferguson along with the staff of Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital, Tatamagouche. Your support was overwhelming and will not be forgotten. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2-4 p.m., Sunday, July 3, 2022, at Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 64, Tatamagouche, 80 Queen Street, Tatamagouche. If so desired, donations in Norm's memory to Palliative Care Unit (CEHHC), VON Colchester '96 East Hants, Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital Auxiliary or charity of choice are welcomed. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall '96 Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro.
